The Secret to Not Crying at My Desk

I used to think finding a workout you actually liked was a myth. The gym? Boring. Running the same old route? Gets old fast. I was stuck in a rut until I found my new obsession: tennis. It’s not just a sport; it’s a full-body workout, a mental game, and my go-to for getting out some serious frustration.

I know what you're thinking: "Tennis? Isn't that for rich people or pros?" The truth is, you don't have to be a superstar to play. The beauty of tennis is that you don't have to be a superstar to play. Whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned player, there's a court waiting for you. And honestly, it’s just the best way to let off some steam.

Here's why I'm so hooked on this amazing sport:

1. It's a Full-Body Workout in Disguise. You're so focused on the ball that you don't even realize you're getting a workout. You're constantly sprinting, lunging, and twisting, which is great for your legs and core. Every swing of the racket works your arms, shoulders, and back. It’s the kind of exercise that makes you forget you're even working out.

2. It's a Brain Game. Tennis isn't just about strength; it's about strategy. You're constantly thinking, "Where should I hit the ball? What's my opponent going to do next?" This quick, tactical thinking is great for your brain. It sharpens your focus and problem-solving skills, and that mental agility stays with you off the court.

3. It's My Ultimate Stress Reliever. Look, playing Fortnite used to do the trick, but now I use the court to deal with the anger from incompetent bosses and all the stupid people in the corporate world. Every time I get in the zone, I imagine I'm hitting some idiot who needs a reality check. It's a great way to just hit the ball and let it all out. Seriously, it helps!

4. It's a Social Sport. I've met so many great people on the court, both in singles and doubles matches. It's a fantastic way to hang out with friends, meet new people, and just find a community around something fun. There's a real sense of camaraderie, whether you're playing with a partner or against an opponent.

5. It's a Lifetime Sport. This is one of the things I love most about tennis. You can play it at any age and any skill level. I've seen people in their 70s and 80s out on the court, still moving and having a blast. It’s a sport you can enjoy for years to come.

If you're looking for a new way to get active, have fun, and find a healthy way to blow off some steam, I highly recommend picking up a racket. You'll be surprised by how quickly you fall in love with it.

Shoutout to My Coach

I wouldn't be where I am today without my coach, Glener Mitre. He's a licensed tennis coach with over two decades of experience, and he was even the #2 ranked youth player in Bolivia back in the day. He knows the game inside and out and is a master at helping people of all levels get better. If you're in the Tampa Bay area and serious about improving your game, you have to hit him up. He offers one-on-one sessions, semi-private lessons, and group lessons. He's honestly changed my entire game.
